Chelsea team news and preview

Premier League leaders Chelsea host Arsenal on the back of a bruising 1-1 draw at Anfield against Liverpool on Tuesday. The Blues have a chance to stretch their lead over Arsenal to 12 points with a win. Antonio Conte’s men have not lost at home since mid-September.

Chelsea’s current points total of 56 has them on course for a title win. But, any slip-ups against the Gunners on Saturday could see them concede ground to the chasing pack, which includes Liverpool and Tottenham alongside Arsenal.

There are no injury concerns for Chelsea, and Conte has the whole squad of players available for selection.

Chelsea predicted line-up (3-4-2-1): Courtois, Luiz, Azpilicueta, Cahill, Moses, Alonso, Kanté, Matic, Pedro, Hazard, Costa.

Arsenal team news  and preview

Arsenal lost to Watford at home in mid-week, hence noises of another failed title challenge will ring louder around London Colney should they fail to beat Chelsea on Saturday. The Gunners are nine points behind Chelsea, and nothing but a win at Stamford Bridge will suffice for Arsene Wenger’s men.

Arsenal have a poor record at Stamford Bridge; their last win there was in October 2011, when Robin van Persie’s hat-trick handed them a 5-3 win. In last season’s corresponding fixture, two red cards for the Gunners meant they fell to a 2-0 loss.

Wenger has midfield issues to solve after Aaron Ramsey limped off in the Watford game. The Welshman is now on the list of midfield absentees for the Chelsea game which also includes Granit Xhaka, Santi Cazorla and Mohamed Elneny.

Arsenal predicted line-up (4-2-3-1): Cech, Mustafi, Bellerin, Koscielny, Monreal, Coquelin, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Özil, Iwobi, Sánchez, Walcott.

Chelsea v Arsenal prediction

As against Liverpool mid-week, Chelsea might be happy to settle for a draw and deny Arsenal the chance to close the gap at the top. Chelsea’s home form has been perfect ever since Conte switched to the 3-4-2-1 setup, but Arsenal are due a good performance after their shambles against Watford. Chelsea would be satisfied with a win or a draw, hence a score draw is likely.
